Review of When Darkness Ends By Marin Mann

Marin Mann does it again - she has give an all new spin to dark romance making it so filled with angst. There is romance, tension, suspense, and so much sheer agony - It is UNPUTDOWNABLE.

What I absolutely love about the book is the way it’s written - the ‘before and ‘after’ chapters. The way they’re all come together at the end, maintaining suspense in the story and answers the many questions it rises throughout the story and also, the way this story ties together with the the Boston bombing tragedy and the other books in the series. The crossovers and character interactions are handled beautifully, adding to the intricacies of the story.

The story by itself is so heart touching, further elevated by the writing style. Ii had few complaints with ‘when we met’ - especially the story pacing and repetitiveness but not with this book. It flows smoothly, maintaining a good pace, keeping the readers guessing what could have happened till the very end. The love story between Pearl- an aspiring theatre student and Asher - a premed student is pleasure to read and the love between them blossoms beautifully and a very believable way. Dylan too gets to shine in this book as Asher’s best friend, making it all the more painful an experience for the readers. But it’s a sweet ache, that you can’t get enough of. It’s the same with Pearls grandma. She is such a sweet lady, and her relation with Pearl is another highlight of the book. Pearl too is a strong and very likeable protagonist, but it’s Asher who takes the cake. I loved Dylan in When Ashes Fall, and I didn’t believe anyone in this series could come close to his perfection, but Asher sure gives him a very tough competition. He is hands down one of the sweetest, most thoughtful, patient guy ever! Any girl would be lucky to be have him as boyfriend. He is a wonderful character, adding to the charm of this book, and taking it a level higher.

And though it’s a dark book, the author has hinted and said a lot of things rather than going into details of the acts, making it easier to read for the ones who aren’t used to reading dark books. I can’t recommend this book enough.

5 emotional angst stars.
