Review Of The Cabin By Jasinda Wilder
This book was beautiful and soul stirring. I would label it as tragically beautiful. So angst filled, deep and emotional. Based on the blurb, I knew what I was getting into and it did deliver on all those grounds and left me reeling, musing over the characters even after finishing the book
To surmise, it's a second chance romance but it's so much more. It's about the unpredictability of life, sorrow, grief and the need to move on and the steps that need to be taken effectively 'live' again and not merely survive. This book explores that in such a realistic way, and as much as it hurts, some scenes so very touching, bringing out tears, it's also 'unputdownable'. The charm of this book lies with its writing. It's written so artistically, there is a magical touch to every scene, making it take flight and appear right in front of our eves. More than the characters and story, it's the storytelling that steals the show. It's my first book by the author and I am blow over by her writing skills. It's so lithe and fluid.
The second reason for this book to stand out is the character of 'Adrian'. He was Nadia's husband who dies 30% into story. His presence is strongly felt throughout the book. He was such a devoted husband, whose love for Nadia had no visible bounds and the degree to which he knew her is so impressive. He is a very rounded, swoon-worthy and admirable character. The way he orchestrated everything prior to his death to ensure Nadia is well taken care of financially made me cry. Not sure if they were happy or sad tears but it was so very touching and heartfelt. And also arranging everything so meticulously for Nathan and Nadia to meet at the right time and giving them a chance at their very own love story is so selfless and wise. I absolutely loved Adrian's character. Nadia and Nathan were also easy to love and cheer. Their grieving stages and their simmering attraction for one another was portrayed realistically with a gentle touch through their time in the cabin. All in all they made for a good couple.
This story is not about what happens but more on how it happens and what it takes to reach that point. It's all about the sorrow and grief filled yet hopeful journey. 5 stars for this emotional read.
