Tight

I have mixed feelings about this book. This book had been in my TBR for a very long time and finally I got a chance to start with it. I was aware that it was a dark read and that's why I wished to be in the 'right' mood to read and enjoy it. Before I start my review, I want to highlight that Alessandra Torre is and will always be one of my all the time fav authors, but this particular book didn't work for me for many reasons. I always start with the plus points before moving to the negative ones. On that note, I totally loved the writing style. No surprise there. Alessandra has always been a fabulous writer. She weaves magic with her words and I totally think this is one of her finest books in terms of writing. The sex is super hot, mind-blowing awesome, the kind that paves way for an easy orgasm of the readers;) The detailing, dialogues, action and description is top-notch. No complaints whatsoever on those grounds. Coming to the negative aspects- I can list a few. Foremost, it's the story. It started out fine, creating many layers of suspense, that left me coming up with various possibilities. 30% into it, I was left in as most of my theories were proved wrong and I started thinking of more twisted possibilities but only to be left disappointed because it took the most obvious straight-forward which I believe that anyone who has reached till fifty percent could easily figure it out. There were no twists or suspense which I was badly hoping for. If that shocker hadn't pulled at thirty percent, there could have been scope for guesses, but sadly that's not the route this book. I still don't get why most of the reviewers are stating that the twist took them by utter shock. What twist are they actually referring to? I really don't get it. It wasn't that Hard to guess especially with a hea in mind Secondly - Pacing. in the beginning it was fast paced mixed with HOT sex. That's always a winning combo, but in the middle it really started to drag, with nothing much happening. Riley and Brett were spending more time together, vacationing ( or working ) in different places, falling in love. It was good, but again boring at parts since I was expecting more suspense and a chase, maybe? Thirdly- It's the characters. Riley was nice, likable, but I don't see any growth as such in her character. Half the time she's confused and even during her confinement, I wasn't too clear on what she was trying to achieve. Sometimes she would be defiant and sometimes more willing?...This might be open to interpretation but it's just how I perceived her actions. They left em confused. Her trust on Brett also kept wavering. I wish she had taken more wise actions, but then, her actions are what made this story dark in the first place. So thinking about the storyline, her actions kind of makes sense. Coming to Brett, I really wish I had gotten more chapters from POV. There were just a handful of dispersed in the book with long gaps between them. He seemed perfect at a surface level, but I wish the dept of his character was explored more. He just fit perfectly into the story and there was no character arc for him. All in all a good chap who fucks really well ( how can I not mention that? ) Overall, this book did keep my interest because I kept waiting for something BIG and SHOCKING to happen and that curiosity kept me on my toes, but on those grounds, I was left disappointed but nevertheless, I did enjoy this one.
