Review Of Bad Mommy

Hmmmm..Still pondering over this one. I really wanted to love this book and I had a lot of expectations when I dived in. Not saying that the story felt flat or anything but it sadly didn't completely live upto my expectations. It was like really creepy and fun read but in terms of storyline- It lacked a concrete plot and a good climax. In many ways this was a one of a kind book. The main and only highlight of this book are the crazy as shit characters - Two to be very specific: Fig and Dalius.I did find Jolene kind of weird too ( or maybe she was so opposite to me that I found it hard to relate ). Story in brief: Fig is crazy obsessive stalker and depressed maybe? ( after her unfortunate miscarriage ) and believes she has found the soul of her daughter in another child and soon thanks to her obsession and craziness she even moves to the house next door ( of that child's family ) and befriends them. Jolene becomes her friend and Dalius ( Jolene's husband ) becomes her new crush? ( hard to find the right turn) and then the crazy and her obsession with Jolene ( to become her or maybe better than her ) reaches a new level of crazy. I didn't hate Fig per se thought I found her scary and strange but it's fun to read from the perspective of a mad person:p The story then shifts to Darius's perspective and this throws a lot of light about him and reveals a LOT of secret. Not totally surprising but enjoying nevertheless. Towards the last it's Jolene's POV ( who is one reliable narrator ) and we get much more clarity on the happenings. Again not fond of her much but at least she is not crazy like the other two. I also noticed quite a few inconsistentencies and it was hard to kepe track of sequence of events in each perpsective. And George ( Fig's husband) was just thrown into the plot but he doesn't serve much of a purpose. He is more like a plot. Also the title is kind of misleading if we presume it hints at the story. The moment part of it was not explored much. It was just touched upon in the beginning and then the story took different turns and didn't highlight this point again which for me disappointing since the story overall had a lot of potential On an ending note, all I can say it - This is mostly character driven. If there were a stronger plot line to balance or contrast the characters, it would have been MUCH better. Till the very end I waited for such a twist but sadly there weren't any.
