Review Of All That Glitters

I went into this book blind and it was a funny and joyful ride. Rather than reviewing this book in a critical way, I want to speak about it from a reader's perspective. It is an enjoyable, time-pass read. It's the kind of book one can read when they want to try something lighthearted and funny. Coming to the story, Eve has been in a relationship with Ian since the age of fourteen and things have been sailing smoothly for them, but with time Eve starts to get bored and is blinded by imperfections of Ian. He is really nice guy who loves her a lot and even proposes her on a date night. But Eva reaches her saturation limits then and she decides that, she wants a break to live independently, try certain 'stuffs' she has been missing on ( like sleeping around with other guys) and tells him that she will return to him after having her fill of the kind of life she wants to live. Ian obviously is heartbroken and breaks up with her. Eva stands by her hasty decision and leaves him, but on her way home she meets with an accident and is rescued by her a guy called Adam. She finds him very attractive and he shows interest in her as well, and soon they start to date. Eva has two close friends, Tara and Katie and she stays with them after leaving Ian's house. What follows is how she drifts away from her friends and family as she gets closer to Adam. She changes her job, meets new friends who influence her life in a rather bad way. The name kind of says it all. All that glitters cannot be gold. It is more like a delusion. The moral of the story is also quite clear and it is shown through a nice and sweet story. We should be happy and satisfied with what we have rather than going behind stuffs we don't have that seem to sparkle from far. Coming to the characters, well I didn't have strong feelings for any of them. The whole story is about Eva learning an important life lesson so she had to make the mistakes she did, but she is also very funny and some scenes ( involving her sarcastic remarks) really cracked me up. I found all other characters annoying and immature. Adam seemed too fake but Ian came across being genuine and nice. Though we don't get to see more of him, he was the only truly likeable character. The issues I faced with this book were there were too many characters without any backdrop to them. Some were just too nasty and I felt certain scenes were kind of unnecessary since they didn't add much to the overall story. It felt too convenient at times, like the whole set up was made just to make Eva learn her lessons. Somewhere in the middle, it kind of drags as well. The ending though was something I had foreseen since I had read a similar kind of plot twist but for this book it again seemed too convenient . What I did like was the whole alphabet game. I really want to try that out!!!!! It's a good activity for all the couples who wish to bring some fun in their relationship. I am not saying the book is bad, neither am I saying it's very good. It's a lighthearted, fun read we can read during a break and finish in a single setting. I like the writing style of the author though and will definitely check out her other books.
