Review of Some Kind Of Perfect
I was dying to get my hands on this book. Some Kind of perfect was released as a epilogue novel and marks the final book of the addicted to you/ Calloway Sisters series. For me this book was nearly perfect. It was the perfect balance of all the right ingredients. Krista and Becca Ritchie have set a level of their own and with every new book they write, they break that level and create a new milestone. I read an interview of theirs where they told that Kiss the Sky was the best book they had written back then but they themselves were genuinely surprised with how Hothouse Flower turned out, making them immensely proud. Their legacy has been growing with every new book they release and aren't I happy about it. For me though, Kiss The Sky will always top the list closely followed by Addicted After All and Some Kind Of Perfect.
Though this book is supposed to be an epilogue novel for my all time favorite Calloway Sisters, it acts as the beginning or the prequel to the story of their kids. This book has been written from multiple pov and covers a ten year time period starting from where Long way down ended prior to the epilogue. There is a very nice flow and right from the first chapter that kick-starts with Lily being hit by a dildo, we are sucked back into the lives of the Calloway Sisters. I have always loved this series and have found the characters and settings very relatable and realistic. This book was no exception. Every scene, dialogue and remark seemed genuine and apt. The characters are awesome as always and the developments in their mutual relations over time can be clearly seen- Be it the relation between Rose and Loren that has grown from being bitter to sweet, the thick friendship that was slowly forged between Connor and Ryke, the clash of egos and love-hate relation between Connor and Rose, the growing maturity and understanding between Lily and Loren, and the support and intimacy between Ryke and Daisy. The best aspect of these books are the wonderful, amazing and flawed characters and we get to a see a lot more of them in this book. The scenes where all of them get together is something to look forward to and it happens a lot in this book. If that weren't enough, we are introduced to a whole bunch of new characters in the form of their offspring. They are all so unique and diverse just like their parents but they still stay united thanks to their budding friendship and family bonds. We see the characters evolve not only as individuals, siblings or spouse but also as parents. The way they handle their kids reflect their own personalities and the maturity they have developed over the years.
The ending of this book is already revealed as the epilogue of Long Way Down, but this time it is from Loren's pov. There is no high voltage drama in this book unlike the other books, but each chapter acts as a short story pertaining to certain characters and highlighting different issues. That's the beauty of this book. The pace is also perfect. Each chapter alternates between being funny, light-hearted, hot, emotional and serious. Like I had mentioned earlier, there is a perfect balance.
So what makes it short of being Perfect? I just wished they had given a smoother ending to certain issues they picked from the past. They left it rather abruptly which could have been given a better ending. Except this minor issue, it's perfect on all other grounds.
I hesitated so much to read the final chapter since I didn't wish for the book to come to an end at all. I can never get enough of these characters and if you all feel the same, then THIS is the book for you. This is a must read for those who have followed the series. It cannot be missed at any cost. This is the perfect definition of an epilogue novel and is truly a masterpiece. I can't wait for the next series. Five stars and more for this.
